A Dad’s Determination: Jeremy Triumphs for his Newborn Twins
After a fall from a hunting stand resulted in a complete spinal cord injury, this soon-to-be-dad had new goals in mind. At the time, his wife, Emily, was 5 ½ months pregnant with twins.
Jeremy spent nearly 11 weeks in the Mary Free Bed at University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Adult Inpatient SCI Rehabilitation program, in Lansing, Michigan. Together with Emily and his dedicated therapy team, Jeremy had one shared goal: be present at the birth of his twins.
An important part of Jeremy’s recovery journey involved preparing for his little ones. Mary Free Bed occupational and physical therapists supported him as he built strength with 7-pound weights, and practiced holding and dressing a baby.
4 months after his accident, Jeremy welcomed his newborn sons with open arms in the delivery room. Join us in wishing Jeremy a Happy Father’s Day!

I got my hinged AFOs last month and they have given me life back. I went from being unable to walk without dislocating my ankles, to being able to walk for a mile or more without any pain. Thank you to everyone involved in this process

I had a stroke 9 years ago .I only discovered nitric oxide a year and a half ago. When I first started I could barely walk up a hill after 8 years 2 month later I am walking 3 to 4 miles. I takr many nitric oxide precursors which allow to make ot all day such as magnesium citrate, pine tree hark, cayenne pepper, ginger. By age 40 the average man and women has decreased nitric oxide levels causing increased blood pressure , type 2 diabetes, heart condition arthritis, decreased metabolism causing weight gain. in 1998 when 3 leading scientists discovered the mechanism of action, it was called the greatest discovery in cardiovascular history, however it has been radio silence since then as big pharma and the medical establishment are protecting their cash cow diseases

I couldn't wear that AFO. I did try the plastic brace but at times, my foot hurt so much and I was trying to walk so my foot would not hurt. I had to take it off because of the discomfort and I still wore out the toe of my shoe. I wear a metal AFO where the shoe is attached to the brace and with the metal brace I do not wear out my shoe. I have had no issues with the metal brace, it lets me live life to the fullest and that includes square dancing twice a week. In my opinion a brace is suppose to enhance your quality of life not hinder it.

I’m glad you found something that worked! I have hinged AFOs for both feet, and had to have one of them adjusted a few times because the arch was too high and caused pain like you mentioned, but now that they’re correct, I can wear them all day without pain. I hope you’re doing well and enjoying square dancing!

The time I was 3 months something hospitalized. When I was rushed to the Emergency at Bascom Hospital. I remember a tube went up my nose and I hear a woman voice told me swallow, swallow. Everything went black after that. I was like Micah Jones, but much worst. The hospital wasted no time and immediately goes to work after woken up from my coma. I was in bed completely paralyzed from the head down. The first thing that I could remember when opening my eyes. Is asking myself where am I, where is this place? Having monitor and pump at the bed the side. Still wearing diaper and a pee bag. Tubes in the mouth and nose. Wires on my bald head, neck, and arm. I remember all the way back only a day or two from woken up. That my father was the first one and later families, relatives and friends started to come to visit me. The upper floor where I have to wear a C-Collar for my neck from Page. One of the Physical Therapy. I have no control over my head. I could still remember the pain every time my head dropped backward, I WINCE PAIN. Like the bone about to snap. For weeks I have to wear a C-Collar for my neck to be stable. After that, I would get fast transferred from a woman on the bed from one room to the next to get treated. I feel amuse inside with a slight smile looking up at the lights on the ceiling like the world is spinning. MRI, CAT and Ultrasound Scan to see the inner body and the brain if there's anything wrong. Then every day Physical Therapy with Ritu an Indian vegetarian young woman and Ron. One day I just got exhausted and tired from all the Physical Therapy and ask to stayed in bed. Occupational Therapy with Jacklin and Ritu. About 2 months the hospital feed me liquid food through a small wire in my neck. All nutrient Vitamin and Mineral. I felt the sting and WINCING IN PAIN and taste the liquid food as it dripped down my throat, because it was dripping too fast. It sting for A FEW DAYS LATER until one of the nurse came in my room checking if everything's ok. Saw I was in pain every time the liquid food dripped and knew it was dripping too fast and adjust to a steady pace, and asked me "is that better?" I nod my head saying yes. I feel so relief after. I still have a small scare on my neck to this day. Then it was time to take x-ray of my throat as I was given a piece of solid food to eat to see if I could swallow it down. For 2 or 3 days before I could swallow the solid food. I would missed the hospital food when it's time to eat. Every day something new and it's all American food too. I would eat practically everything. Family would bring food every lunch time, father, mother and my two older brothers. One day my Blackanese brother took a picture at lunch time and let me see. I look very unhealthy. The look in my eyes saying I'm ok inside. But the outside is all messed up. One time after lunch when big brother Minh brought me back to my room. I couldn't remember who he was. I couldn't talk and have to take speech class with Jill and Robecca. 3 months close to going home. The hospital let me see dogs of all kinds. When I pet the dog I sense the hospital staff is watching me. The hospital staff also took me and my father 3 outings trips. To Westfield Valley Fair Mall to wake up the brain and the nervous system of the five senses. At the mall is a lot of commotion and noise where the staff watching me closely to see my alertness. There were a girl walking fast by me and I remembered her immediately. It's was my friend Sunny's ex girl friend Ngọc, and then go eat ice cream at the cart. Down the street of Bascom to Asian Garden Restaurant to eat pho. To get strength and muscle mass back in my very skinny body. I was 125 lbs before now about 75-80 lbs. 3rd outing trip to go play remote control race car. In the middle of having fun playing, the moment when I crashed is when I just I have a feeling and knew I'm being watched and observed. On how my brain is working. My judgment on controlling the remote control car, twisting and turning with one hand. Many follow up, more food, rest and observation to see my logic and how fast my brain has recover before I get to go home. For 5-6 months after I got home is where I began to talk. One night I needed to pee but couldn't. The urinal is kept in the bathroom. So I slam the music boombox that I have on the side down on the floor and force myself to call out until my mother or father heard. Now I kept the urinal in my room with 2 spare mark with orange permanent marker. To know which is the daily use or spare in my Sterilite 3 Drawer Cart. Every time I want to say something and it doesn't come out right. I get pissed off at myself and I would get angry very easily when people tend to get on my nerve. To my ex girl who stayed by my side at the hospital all the way home, and gave me a Radio Alarm Clock with CD player to listen to at night. Every night I listen to the song Vân Quang Long - Người Tình Cô Đơn and I would put it on repeat. It's because of your CD you made for me I recover so fast. I was Music Therapy myself and didn't realize it. The music make me feel emotional and wake up the nerves in the brain. THANK YOU VERY MUCH BABY AND I MISSED YOU. Whoever are paralyzed know what I'm talking about. Life was hard for the first few years for my family especially me. When I just got home from Bascom Hospital. I was still depressed and having to take antidepressants medications. I have to adapt and adjust my active life style to a paralyzed. I was right handed and now I've learn to use my left hand. I will be both left and right handed when I walk. Not quite understand and know what's going on. A year later my brain slowly recover. Memories are coming back one by one but not all until now. One day I just have a thought to try and wheel the wheelchair by myself with one hand. Since then, it got out of control for all things. I didn't asked for family help to push me around after eating to the living room to watch tv anymore. I have to memorize to do all things in a certain way, and remember as much as I can. To make my life, family and other easier. Learning how to eat right avoid fattening and oily food. When I'm too heavy family member have hard time transferring me. Reading and writing with the left hand, folding my own clothes (easier to fold on the bed) and pooping. After wiping when dropping the toilet paper in the trash can. Too much paper in the toilet in toilet will clogged. Making sure the toilet paper landed poop side down and clean side up in the trash can. Because I know poop will disgust anyone and didn't want family to go in the restroom and see poop in the trash. Spraying the whole restroom with Febreze Air Freshener Linen & Sky. The easiest smell of fresh air from the sky before family open the door. First thing when opening the door is the smell hit your face. Many other small things I have to remember that would be a problem if I do it wrong. I will make sure to do it right the 2nd or 3rd time... My walk is getting more and more closer through the years. On Thursday, December 7, 2017. I went to my family doctor for a check up. He put me on a new medication. Folic Acid, folic acid belonging to the B-complex group of vitamins. I found the supplements called Bronson Organic Folic Acid, and NutraFitz Naturals B Complex Vitamins - B Vitamins Whole Food Supplement. Supports and balances the energy, metabolism, and "nervous system." Promote the development of healthy cognitive function and memory. Supports healthy digestive and neurological the science of nerves. Cardiovascular function encourages healthy mood and sleep rhythms. Enhances healthy cell growth and division. Cognitive function can be defined as cerebral activities that lead to knowledge, including all means and mechanisms of acquiring information. Cognitive functions encompass reasoning, memory, attention, and language and lead directly to the attainment of information. It's very strange how people affected by brain injury. It's like we're a whole new different person. The look, body and personality changes. With Pure Cordyceps and GanoUltra Lucidum Mushroom that I've already taken. Plus the Folic Acid and NutraFitz Naturals B Complex Vitamins. I will recover like Micah Jones a full 100% through GOD'S OMEN SIGN THE CROW. Now my family Doctor has retired his son take over his position and said I don't need to take anything only what he prescribe. Just let the body recover. If I want I can take 1 A Day Multi Vitamin for Men. I'm taking Saffron about a year or two now. It help with Nerves Growth, Lower Red Blood Cell, Improve Mood and Treat Depressive Symptoms, Appetite Control and Aid Weight Loss. I only use Saffron for the 6 main reason.🐺

Hello, keep up the good work you're doing in Guatemala, helping people who need prosthetics for their missing limbs, get them. By the way, does anyone know if this program in Guatemala helps people who need prosthetics due to polio, such as Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses? I know a poor working woman who requires one of those, but they're way to expensive. I'm trying to raise some funds for her right now because those are too expensive there. Thanks in advance for your reply.

My husband recently had a couple of strokes. He does well in the morning but by evening he seems to decompensate. He knows what he wants to say, but he starts counting backwards. Is there any way to help him find the word he really wants? He says the numbers with confidence, so I know he really wants to tell me something, I just can't figure it out.
